RhinoBVM was founded by a practicing emergency physician who started out as a paramedic — and the device reflects that vantage point: built for the rescuer working alone in the field, without a second set of hands, without the luxury of a controlled setting, and without time to spare.

Derek is a board-certified emergency physician, board-certified in emergency medical services, and the inventor of RhinoBVM. Before medical school he worked as an EMT and paramedic in New Jersey and North Carolina — the prehospital experience that drives the device's design.
He is certified as a prehospital physician in Pennsylvania and has served as medical director for numerous EMS agencies across the state, with more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in emergency and prehospital medicine.
Raluca is an acute care nurse practitioner whose career spans prehospital and critical care. She worked as a paramedic in Florida and as a critical care flight paramedic in Philadelphia.
As a nurse, she has practiced in emergency departments and intensive care units across the United States. Her own experience — struggling to maintain a one-handed seal on a standard bag-valve mask because of her hand size — helped shape RhinoBVM's one-handed design.
